Radiant Happenings! November 23rd

The key to life in the wisdom of God is "Hear!" All through the Bible God has required of His people this one thing "Hear what I say and do it!" As you read the Bible watch how many times God says to hear or hearken. How we hearken determines our outcome in every situation. Look at what our next verse in Proverbs 1 has to say about this:

"My son, hear the instruction of your father; reject not nor forsake the teaching of your mother." Proverbs 1:8 (AMPC)

A revelation of Hearing and obeying God is the Basic Bible Course to Victory! When temptation and pressure come, the wisdom of God will cause you to choose God's way if you truly reverence Him as God.

In the Kesuvim / The Writings (Mishlei/Proverbs) on pg. 6-7, this is some of what is written about verse eight:

"Hear, my child, the discipline of your father, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother. A child should accept his father's rebuke and his mother's teachings, for they mean his benefit (Metzudos)."

"This verse, which speaks of honoring parents, and the previous verse, which speaks of fearing Hashem, correspond to the three partners in every individual: Hashem, his father, and his mother. (Vilna Gaon; see Niddah 31a)"

"Parental rebuke is vital to young children, whose Evil Inclination is with them from birth (Genesis 8:21), but who are not yet mature enough to control their desires. Once accustomed to satisfying their urges, even mature adults will find it hard to change this ingrained behavior. But when parents train their children, they are molded in a positive and enduring way (R' Yonah).

"A growing child must be trained to act properly; training often requires strictness and discipline. This is the role of the father, whom the children tend to fear more than their mother. A mother's role is to guide her child in how to get along with people – what is generally called "civilized conduct" – without which society cannot function (Maharal).

Do you see a possible reason why our society here in the USA is facing so many social challenges? Parents, we need to take responsibility for our children. Grandparents, we need to take responsibility for our grandchildren. Women, we need to take responsibility for training those younger than we are. Our role is clear!
