Radiant Happenings! December 14th

"If they say, Come with us; let us lie in wait [to shed] blood, let us ambush the innocent without cause [and show that his piety is in vain]; 12 Let us swallow them up alive as does Sheol (the place of the dead), and whole, as those who go down into the pit [of the dead]; 13 We shall find and take all kinds of precious goods [when our victims are put out of the way], we shall fill our houses with plunder; 14 Throw in your lot with us [they insist] and be a sworn brother and comrade; let us all have one purse in common– 15 My son, do not walk in the way with them; restrain your foot from their path;" Proverbs 1:11-15 (AMPC)

Listen to what the Kesuvim / The Writings (Mishlei/Proverbs) on pg. 7-8 say about verses eleven to fifteen:

"In Proverbs 1:11-14, King Solomon illustrates how sinners entice people to murder and rob, followed by a warning to avoid them (v.15). The Vilna Gaon explains that there are two general categories of sin: anger and lust. The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:13) list murder – an outgrowth of anger – and then adultery – an outgrowth of lust. Solomon follows this pattern. Here he speaks of bloodshed, and later (2:16-19) about the lure of lust.

According to Malbim, Solomon begins with the heinous crime of murder, for it is universally understood that it is evil to join with murderers and robbers. Once that message is related, a parent can proceed to teach his child the danger of enticement to any sin."

Give God first place over all your desires, over your own ambitions – over everything in your life. That kind of honor and reverence for God will pull you back from the snare of temptation to do wrong and cause you to do what's right. And as you walk in God's ways, your obedience will bring continual good in your life. His life is the "good life."
