Your Voice Was Heard!

We have ALMOST saved History! One more call/email is needed!

Thanks to all who have tirelessly worked to beat back this round of WOKE-ism. Praise God that the thousands of calls, emails, and the testimony of those who made it to Austin were heard and understood by the Republicans on the SBOE. We are winning because we are speaking out!  You were heard! Keep it up!

Cindi Castilla, President of Texas Eagle Forum, spells out what you need to know and calls you to one last push. The SBOE will take a final vote on Friday and we need all of the Republicans to support Vice Chair Pam Little’s amendment as written. Passage will give our children several more years of our current program while the SBOE works on any new standards that are necessary for children to get a proper and functional education.

Please step up one more time!

Grassroots America joins Texas Eagle Forum in urging you to email or call your Republican SBOE member to 1) thank them for voting for SBOE Member Pam Little’s motion and 2) ask them to support it again this Friday, Sept. 2.

DETAILS:  All Republicans voted for Pam Little’s good motion to (1) delay implementation of the proposed TEKS rewrite until 2025 and in the meantime, (2) update the current TEKS to revise language that is required by recently passed state laws, and (3) create a Blue Ribbon Commission to research best practices for moving forward with a 2025 rewrite of TEKS standards.

ACTION: Please email or call your Republican SBOE member to thank them for voting for Pam Little’s motion and ask them to support it again on Friday. Every Republican supported it except Matt Robinson and Will Hickman. (Sample Email)

If your SBOE member is Matt Robinson (R): Mr. Robinson was NOT in the room for the vote on Vice Chair Little’s motion. We don’t know why he left, but we must assume he is a threat to good history TEKS and, therefore, may vote wrong on Friday. Ask him to support the delay until 2025 so that we are sure we are offering our students a quality educational program for History/Civics/Social Studies. Parents and taxpayers have spoken loudly and in large numbers that they do not like the TEKS standards that the workgroups created and he needs to support the people of Texas instead of the workgroup F “professionals” who are deep into woke academia.

If your SBOE member is Will Hickman (R): Mr. Hickman voted NO on Vice Chair Little’s amendment, but he claims to be on our side and that he was concerned that they had not first addressed providing a new framework for the future TEKS rewrite. We can appreciate his concern, but we do not fully agree with his proposal (which was the second motion that passed and will also be voted on Friday).

The Democrats on the committee will likely not support the motion. If you want to contact your Democrat SBOE member, you might tell them that they are supporting divisive concepts in education and a framework for teaching Social Studies/History/Civics that will confuse students and make learning difficult. Our current framework is working well. Children must understand their own nation and state before they learn about others. Children in K-2 learn through stories. They should concentrate on memorizing phonics and math facts. History, vocabulary, and thinking skills should be developed by hearing beloved classical literature read aloud to them. Ask your member to reconsider and help all children get an education that encourages actual unity instead of tribalism or division which is a Marxist tactic.

If Ruben Cortez, Jr. (D) is your member:  Let him know that he voted wrong, but thank him for being man enough to stay in the meeting (he was there via zoom) and not run away to try to break quorum.

SUMMARY: Texas Eagle Forum supports Vice Chair Pam Little’s motion to add language to our current Social Studies TEKS to accommodate newly passed laws and postpone any effort to rewrite these TEKS standards until 2025. The motion also instructs the SBOE to create a Blue Ribbon Committee to research and advise the SBOE members on future framework instructions.

We do not agree with Will Hickman’s motion. We understand the need to provide a firm framework for those working to revise TEKS, but history does not change. Texas students actually score well when tested on History/Civics/Social Studies – especially when compared to their reading and math scores! Let’s stick with our historical framework and instruct future workgroups to start with our current successful framework.

We want children in K-2nd grade to spend time learning to read with phonics and memorize rote math facts. They will learn from having beloved classical books read to them that cover American and Texas history. They will enter 3rd grade with a positive understanding of their nation and state and be more prepared to look at world history and social studies topics.
