Radiant Happenings! March 7th

Praise God for His goodness and faithfulness towards us! Reflecting over the past two months of services we've had at EMIC, I am so grateful for all the guests that have come, and the Word that we have heard!! In these days of uncertainty, having a Word that is everlasting gives us the firm foundation to stand unshaken. This is why continuing to reflect on the verses in Proverbs is so important!!

Now for this week's verse in Proverbs 2:

"Making your ear attentive to skillful and godly Wisdom inclining and directing your heart and mind to understanding [applying all your powers to the quest for it];" Proverbs 2:2 (AMPC)

In verse 2, more detail is given to explain what it means to treasure God's words. This scripture agrees with James 1:5-6, which says when you want wisdom, you must ask for it in faith and not waver. Proverbs 2:2 takes that thought a step further and tells you to direct your mind and your heart toward God's wisdom.

You have to go after the wisdom and knowledge of God, applying all of your powers – your concentration, your energy, your efforts – to obtaining it. It has to become the quest of your life.

Listen to what the Kesuvim / The Writings (Mishlei/Proverbs) on pg. 15 say about verse two:

Vs. 2 "To make your ear attentive to wisdom; i.e., to be engrossed in the study of Torah (Rashi). Chochmah refers to the knowledge gained from a teacher as our Sages teach (Chagigah 3b): make your ears like a mill-hopper, a large funnel through which grain is channeled to the mill (Vilna Gaon)."

"Incline your heart to understanding. R' Yonah comments that this verse and the next contain the five steps needed to acquire chochmah: (1) listening carefully; (2) concentrating to the exclusion of all else; (3) praying to merit chochmah; (4) expending effort in its pursuit; and (5) loving chochmah. (NOTE: chochmah = instruction/teachings)
