Today, June 6, 2024, will mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings along the Normandy coast during World War II. This event, which ultimately led to the liberation of Europe, marks a momentous occasion to celebrate peace, liberty and reconciliation. As we turn now to our Proverbs 2 study, pay heed to the wisdom God provides. Wisdom that is given to help us avoid repeating these errors in our human interactions.
Our Proverbs Chapter 2 Study
"Who forsakes the husband and guide of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God." Proverbs 2:17 (AMPC)
Whether or not we eat the fruit of our own way is up to us. If we want to go God's way, then we'll eat His fruit of goodness, peace and instruction. But if we want to go the way of the world, we will ultimately eat its bitter fruit. A fact that clearly is about to happen to this wife in vs. 17.
Listen to what the Kesuvim / The Writings (Mishlei/Proverbs) on pg. 19 say about verse seventeen:
Vs. 17 "Who forsakes the husband [lit., master] of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. The covenant refers to her obligation to keep Hashem's commandments and not betray her "husband" (Metzudos).
God inserts His Holy Name in the partnership of man and woman – the letter yud of God's Name is in man, and the letter hei is in woman. If a couple is disloyal to Him, Hashem removes His Name from them. Only the aleph and shin – fire – remain with them, and will consume them (Ibn Ezra).
