The Cave of Adullam

From Despair to Faith-filled Mighty Men!

Men, what happened to the 400 men that were in distress, in debt and discontented who followed David into the Cave of Adullam and, after 9 months emerged as David’s Mighty Men – faith-filled, fearless and victorious?

1Sam 22:1- 2 David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him.

And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became commander over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.

Nine months in the cave. The length of time it takes to birth something new. The answer to what led the transformation in the men lies in the Psalms, many of which were written by David while in the cave.

Over the past 3 Men’s Breakfast, we have ventured deep into the Cave of Adullam to receive revelation from the Holy Spirit about how David led this transformation in his men.

There is much to be learned about how we stand in the face of distress, debt and discontentment with what was learned by David’s Mighty Men.

The three main things we discovered from David’s time in the cave with those men were:

The Power of:

  1. Testimony
  2. Praise
  3. Thanksgiving

Testimony

On David’s way to the cave, he came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest. He asked Ahimelech if he had a weapon that he could have for his journey. Ahimelech said that he “happened to have the sword of Goliath” that he, David, can have. Imagine that! The very sword that David used to cut off Goliath’s head after he defeated him was miraculously there for him, unbeknownst to him!

1Samuel 21:9 And the priest said, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you struck down in the Valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will take that, take it, for there is none but that here." And David said, "There is none like that; give it to me."

God had prepared that very sword to be in David’s path as a testimony of His faithfulness and a reminder of victory against all odds! Imagine the flood of remembrance that filled David about how God had stood by him against Goliath. Imagine the same for the 400 that followed David as he led them into that cave carrying Goliath’s sword. The testimony of how what God has done, He can do again and again! Listen to what has been attributed as one of the first Psalms David wrote in the cave of Adullam:

Listen to my testimony: I cried to God in my distress and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears! Gaze upon him, join your life with his, and joy will come. Your faces will glisten with glory. You’ll never wear that shame-face again. When I had nothing, desperate and defeated, I cried out to the Lord and he heard me, bringing his miracle-deliverance when I needed it most. Psalm 34:4-6 TPT

Testimony had led a way to begin to build the faith of David and the 400 men.

Praise

David was a man of praise with a heart after God. Against all odds and in despair, David led the men in worship and praise of the Almighty God. He taught the men that praise is the act of ascribing worth to God no matter what the circumstances are or what the environment looks and feels like.

Ascribe to the Lord, O sons of the mighty, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.Give to the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness or in holy array. Psalm 29:1-2

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together. Psalm 34:1-3

7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise.Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the [a]nations. Psalm 57:7-9

Thanksgiving

David knew how to approach God. He knew that thanksgiving was the first step in approaching God’s presence as was the pattern of the Tabernacle.

Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and [b]not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations. Psalm 100:3-5

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night, Psalm 92:1-2

Offer to God thanksgiving, And pay your vows to the Most High. 15 Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” Psalm 50:14-15

There are many Psalms written by David filled with testimonies of God’s faithfulness, praising, and giving thanks to God. David’s leadership of the 400 men that led to their transformation was accomplished by focusing their faith on the majesty of the God that is worthy of all praise and thanksgiving. The God that delivered them before will deliver them again! Their praise had become bigger than their problems and they changed from victims to victorious mighty men!

“Cultivate a lifestyle of thanksgiving” – Pastor George Pearsons

I urge you to go back and listen to the powerful messages of Thanksgiving taught by Pastor George on November 19th and November 26th.

Pastor George shared some key medical facts about the transforming power of thanksgiving:

  1. Being thankful boosts your health by reducing depression, stress, lowering blood pressure and producing more energy and greater optimism
  2. Being thankful slows the aging process. In older adults, the daily practice of gratitude slowed the effects of neuro degeneration.
  3. Being thankful puts the brakes on stress. Cortisol, often called the stress hormone, is significantly lowered through positive emotions such as gratitude.
  4. Being thankful helps us bond with each other. Research shows that gratitude leads to better relationships through an increased production of oxytocin also known as the “bonding hormone”.
  5. Being thankful is good for the heart. Research shows that those who actively express thanksgiving can reduce blood pressure by 10%.

God has designed us with the ability to experience transformation in every part of our lives by grace through faith through the power of thanksgiving.

When we focus our faith on the goodness of God, His faithfulness towards us and approach Him with the worship due to Him with a thankful heart, we can overcome any situation, experience healing and be filled with the peace that surpasses all understanding!

“The chaos of the end times will require the spiritual focus of disciplined men” -Ps. Al Men, during our March Men’s Breakfast we discussed the need to increase good godly habits in order to grow as men of God so that we will better hear Him and take on His image. “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.” Proverbs 25:28 ESV Developing a disciplined life requires us to not just stop doing unfruitful things but also filling those voids with doing things that edify and mature you in Christ. 7 Holy Habits (disciplines) to grow into Mature Manhood Increase your daily intake of God’s Word. Starting your day in the Word. Guard your heart, especially against offense. Increase your prayer life, praying intentionally rather than routinely. Keep your heart sensitive to the Holy Spirit through obedience to the Word and His promptings. Choose godly wisdom over neutral or emotionally-driven options. Practice fasting as a regular spiritual discipline. Look for opportunities to serve, disciple, and mentor others. Please see the Men’s Breakfast video and teaching notes attached and get ready to step into a new dimension with God! Prayer and confession over 2026 – The Year of the Big Fix! Father, we ask for a mighty and sustained manifestation of Your wonderful glory in this current season; manifesting Your majestic presence, Your awesome power and Your extravagant goodness that brings: An awakening to You in the body of Christ; waking us out of our apathy, complacency, and lethargy and moving into the harvest field. Protection and victory for Israel – the apple of Your eye. Protection and wisdom for President Trump and those called to his side as he leads our nation under Your providential hand. Your glory to be made manifest in our church, Your body – the church, our school campuses, our nation, and the world. Breakthroughs of growth, prosperity, influence and favor for our ministry and partners at KCM, EMIC, KCBC and the Victory Channel. Personal prosperity and breakthroughs (answers, direction and clarity) for every church member and partner of this ministry. And complete preparation in spirit, soul and body for all that is coming. – To God be the all the glory, amen! Unified faith is the incubator for revival! First thing He said to me, “You’re going to speak to the church this morning. You’re speaking to the ministries on prayer. I want you to be My mouthpiece. Speak to them slowly, gently, with divine urgency, because they have a dream and they have a vision which must be realized because I’ve given that to them. They are My people. But they are people of destiny, and so be warned that nothing should be said that I have not said to you. Say it with compassion. Assure them that I know of the love that is amongst them. But that should increase tenfold in view of what is going to happen shortly. Speak to Kenneth Copeland Ministries and the International Church. Tell them that I regard them as people of destiny as much as I regarded those four young people, part of the banished nation far away from Jerusalem, waiting for the day when Jerusalem would once again be the home and the center of My people. “You intended to speak on Daniel and certain excerpts from that. It is good because that is within the guidance of My Spirit and within the center of My will. But forget your notes. You’re not sermonizing. Regard it as a prophetic spirit that has come to you through Me. Tell them that the secret of those four young men—Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego–the secret was that they frequently prayed, although they found themselves in a strange culture. They fasted. And as they will do what I am to tell you to do, they will feel My Spirit resting upon them, equipping them, empowering them to go forth and be My people in a world that is not very different from what they found themselves in. There are so many strange cultures in America. So many strange nations across the world. And this is an international body, reaching out to the furthest corners of the world. “Tell them to read the book of Daniel. It is a much-neglected book. Some of My people have taken from it certain parts that they liked. But I would have them as a body to read the entire book, to commence with that reading individually and corporately as soon as possible. They must hear it word for word. They must note the number of times that these people fasted and prayed, and let fasting be one of the clear motivations in their life to know My fullness and to know my plans for them. “They are My people. They are people of My choice. They are people of destiny. The leadership must know that My Spirit will never depart from them. If they draw near unto Me, I shall draw near unto them. More than that, I shall ever be with them, never removed at any distance. Shortly, they will be ministering in this country. They will also be ministering in other countries, but every time, My anointing will rest upon them so powerfully that they will know they are people of My choice, and make themselves available. I want them to know that everyone involved in the ministry, whether it be a menial task, the most unimportant task in their own eyes, if they’re My instruments, they are important. There is no link that can be taken out of the chain. “I repeat, speak to them slowly, deliberately, fearlessly, but with divine compassion. Love them as My people, My Church, My Body, My Bride. Reassure them once again of My love that is infallible at all times, and My Spirit that is available to them at all times since I dwell in them, I’ll be living with them and in them from this day forward more powerfully than ever before. They are My nation. They are My people of priests and prophets. And none of them, not the least of them, should try to withdraw from what I’m going to reveal to them and what I’m to require of them.” Folks, I tried to sleep. But this power of God rested upon me so heavily, so mightily, that I…Whenever God reveals Himself to me it’s quickening and energizing. Yet this morning, when I woke up I was tired out. It was a remarkable experience. I’m going to read a few passages which came to me at that time, to show you the importance of this book. And, Pastor George, I don’t know when you’re going to start it. The Lord said as soon as it’s possible for you to do it, do it methodically, do it faithfully, both in your private capacities, and as a corporate Body.

Men, Pastor George heard from God after asking Him: “Lord, what would make 2026 YOUR most productive year?” The Lord answered: 16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go [ a ]therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” [ b ]Amen. Matt 28:16-20 The Lord gave Ps. George further instruction by saying: “Make your church more conducive to the lost” then to “Mobilize the troops!”. Men, we have been mobilized to share Jesus and challenged to develop a culture of invitation. Please see the attached January Men’s Breakfast video and Pastor’s notes below to get the full challenge to “Go make disciples”! Prayer and confession over 2026 – The Year of the Big Fix! “We are an evangelistic church!” This statement rose up in Pastor George’s heart a few weeks ago and it has carried him every message since. Pastor George continued his series this past Sunday on the importance of bringing others to church. Did you know that 79% of people who come to a church for the first time come because someone invited them? There is no greater tool than personal invitation! We encourage you to ask yourself throughout this week, who can I bring to church with me next Sunday?

This is God stepping in with restoration that extends from the global stage to the details of everyday life. What began with a visible reset in Venezuela is a picture of what God is doing among nations and among His people. The Lord said He has seen the mess and is fixing it. His peace is being released, just as Jesus spoke to the storm and said, “Peace, be still.” That same authority is still at work today, especially concerning Israel and the United States.
